Specs

Recently I produced a series of black & white photographs tackling the idea of taking the familiar and displaying it in a way that is unfamiliar to an audience. As I write about this series as a whole, I will slowly hint at what you see in these photographs. My hope is that you as the viewer take the opportunity to speculate these photographs one by one and draw up an idea of what it is you are looking at.
To successfully display this concept of making the familiar unfamiliar, I realized the best way to do so would be through a series of photographs depicting a common, everyday, household object. These photographs simply came about through experimentation with a single object, a light source, and my observations. What astonished me the most was how something so simple and so still was able to speak so clearly to me surrounding the idea of this project.

By this point, my hope is that you have taken the time to look at each of these photographs individually and make an assumption as to what the subject is. However, what I want to express most here is that there are beautiful photographs around us at all times, just waiting to be taken. To think that I got the urge to take this many photographs of such a simple object is what fascinates me the most.

In the end, I'd rather leave you wondering with this project than to provide clarity. That being said, I will not be revealing the subject of these images.

  1. I think I know what this is - of course it's something you have used many times and that you will find in many homes. I won't reveal what it is...but I'm pretty sure I know!!
